Artificial Pancreas.

This looks like the greatest break through for diabetes care.

People with type one diabetes can have continuous blood glucose monitoring at the moment but when I looked into getting it for Tom it was going to cost us around $700.00 a month. We really cannot afford this kind of money for it.

Hopefully though the artificial pancreas will soon be on the market at an affordable price.

Affordable price is key. If the health insurance carrier don't follow and insure this critical breakthrough, it help anyone. I pray that this will come through soon for yours, Therese.

God bless you

Hi Therese,
I saw this on the news, and immediately thought of you and your two boys.

It would make your lives so much simpler, wouldn't it?

Blessings,
Jillian

Here in Australia it is a bit different to the States Abbey.

We have a government funded organisation that people join when they are diagnosed. All the consumerables we need to look after Tom and Christopher are heavily subsidized by them.

The reason the continuous blood glucose monitoring is so expensive is because it isn't on the list for government subsidy. When Tom was first diagnosed though pumps cost around $300.00 a month to run with the consumerables but now it costs us around $45.00 because of the subsidy.

Oops. I forgot to add, one day they will also subsidize the continuous glucose monitor but until they do, we will just not be able to get one.

Because of my nephew, I am always interested in these advances. I pray it all becomes available and affordable soon!

I just have to comment on the favorite books you've listed in your profile. I love Trixie Belden! When I was growing up, she beat out Nancy Drew on my Christmas list every year! How I would have loved to live on a farm and have a friend named Honey!

Your blog is great! Glad I found you!

Good news - (sort of) at least its there even if you can't get it yet. Will be hoping and praying it becomes one of those consumerables soon.

Please pray for a cure for Type One Diabetes

Please pray for a cure for Type One Diabetes
Our sons Tom and Christopher and our daughter Amelia are type one diabetics. We pray everyday for a cure. We do not want one by illicit means though so don't support any organisation that contributes to Embryonic Stem Cell Research. Click on the photo of Tom and Christopher to read about why I am against using Embryonic Stem cells for a cure.
