Our Week.

Last week was our last week of formal home school for the year. We will still be doing some maths and reading but our main focus will be on advent and preparing for Christmas.

For advent, we are having an advent wreath. I was a bit late ordering the candles for it so we havn't made it yet but I am hoping they will arrive this week and between now and then we will do the prayers each day without the wreath.

We are also making a Jesse Tree. I have downloaded the symbols from Our Sunday Visitor. There are all kinds of links for advent activities for everyone to do with their family at Catholic mom.

My other goal for Advent is to take Tom, Amelia and Christopher to mass each day.

What are your plans for advent?

This is the first year we are doing the Jesse tree. I got a really nice kit from our parish advent retreat. We started tonight and I am enjoying it, and so are the children. I'm going to try to make an advent wreath (been procrastinating on that one for YEARS because I'm picky, so I'll just make one this week hopefully).

Hi Therese,
Just wanted to pop by and say hello!
I can't believe the Chrsitmas season is upon already.

This year will be a quiet one for us, I'm yet to even start decorating but David has insisted the tree go up and we should count our blessings.

Hope all is going well for you and the family.

Hi Therese,

'Tis Bek, back online a couple of weeks ago after the longest time of not having the internet at home!

Recently finished my Masters in Theological Studies, heading off in a few weeks to Nashville, Tennessee to see if the Lord is calling me to life as a Dominican in the St Cecilia congregation based over there.

How are you, Steve and the kids?
All the very best for Advent and Christmas!

(In answer to your question - my family do a wreath and we light the coloured candles as appropriate at the family meal. We're also building an enormous Nativity Scene in our front yard and we will get spotlights and whatnot set up so that its not all about reindeer and candy canes and so on...)

I'm intending to do some Bible stories and Jesse tree stuff. Not absolutely sure how I want to go about it yet.

I wanted to ask what you use for teaching your children about Australia and it's history. We've just done a chapter in Story of the World but I've been bugged a bit recently as I think our history is very UK-USA centric and I want more Africa and Australia in there.
So any ideas would be great.

Please pray for a cure for Type One Diabetes
Our sons Tom and Christopher and our daughter Amelia are type one diabetics. We pray everyday for a cure. We do not want one by illicit means though so don't support any organisation that contributes to Embryonic Stem Cell Research. Click on the photo of Tom and Christopher to read about why I am against using Embryonic Stem cells for a cure.
