"Those who speak out against stem cell research may be rooted in admirable conviction about the sacredness of life, but so are the parents of a child with juvenile diabetes who are convinced that their son's or daughter's hardships can be relieved."

You are wrong President Obama. The sacredness of life cannot be compared to a cure.
Two of my children suffer from type one diabetes and they both lead healthy happy lives. Sure we have tough days and sure there are issues but never ever ever should a life be taken so that we can live without hardship.
An embryo is just as sacred and has the same rights as any living person. No life should be sacrificed so that we can find a cure.
I really don't believe a cure will be found by embryonic stem cells anyway.
Editing to add other parents of type one diabetics who are against embryonic stem cell research:
Michele from The family centred life
Mrs B from So many Bakers
Shell from Thinking Love, No Twaddle
This article that Shell linked to is also great:

I'm with you there Therese! I admire your conviction considering this health issue of diabetes affects your family seriously.
I pray that one day, hopefully soon, your loved ones can be helped with their own stem cells!
Well said!
Couldn't have been more proud of you, Therese. God bless you abundantly!
I would like to be able to say something like that but it wouldn't be my place to presume.
We will continue to pray for a solution to Type 1 that doesn't involve stem cells....
Thank you Therese for witnessing to this.
I hope there is a cure soon...I'm married to a type 1...hope your kid won't have to go through 30+ years of damage.....you may re-think your stance on ESSR....
Welcome to my blog catlover and thanks for your comment.
My 9 year old son was diagnosed with type one diabetes when he was just 14 months old and just recently our 4 year old son has been diagnosed as well. I have watched my 9 year old son in intensive care twice struggling to hold onto life. I know the heart ache and pain that comes from this disease. I would love a cure and to end the suffering my sons go through but it cannot be at the cost of another persons life.
The fact is, every person on this earth suffers. It doesn't matter who we are or what condition we have, we will all still suffer.
Suffering is a fact of life and trying to stop suffering at the cost of another persons life is wrong.
This is something I feel very passionate about. If we deny basic human rights to anyone we start down a slippery slope.
First step is already here. We don't recognise babies in the womb as having the right to life. Next will be the elderly that are a burden on society and then the sick and frail. I could well imagine someone saying that murdering my sons would be merciful since they cannot live without insulin injections. They could be seen as a burden and the desire to help them may cost them their lives.
I will never think it is acceptable to kill another person (which essr does) to cure my child.
You couldn't have said it better Therese!
Well said!!!!
That is TERRIFYING logic, isn't it? Sacrificing one to potentially help advance research. It is so upsetting... people try to see a gray area when it is really only black and white.
I thought of you immediately when I saw that Obama said that, Therese. I already knew what you would say. :o) Sending up some prayers for your boys this morning.
would you also have a problem giving me the right to die? I have suffered from MS since I was a teen....I have gotten worse where I do think some days it would be better than living like this. Please don't take that right away from people, I wouldn't wish this on anyone, that is why I worry X-tra about my husband's diabetes, I'm sure the stress involved from taking care of me isn't helping him...
Well said Therese!
He is so blind and deceived when it comes to these issues. Where did he get these backward ideas?! Praying for wisdom and discernment for him. Doesn't he read the Bible?!
Ana as always, praying for your boys and a cure.
therese, please updatr your links to my blog, and see the post about it on the Garden.
That's what I'm talkin about! You go girl :)
It's so scary out there! I feel safer reading your blog and the comments and knowing that I'm not alone, because it sure feels that way sometimes, Thank you!!
Hi Therese,
I totally agree with you. NO ONE has the right to take a life, except God, of course.

Amen, Therese! AMEN!!!
Unfortunately for America, this new leader has no clue what respecting life at all costs means. No Church, no religion, no reverence, no real belief in God.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God!
The way the minds of some people works is so warped and downright wrong. Thank you for a very eloquent and factual post about this issue. Obama will never have the convictions in his entire body that you have in the tip of your pinky! You are a chosen one, dearest.
Love,
Abbey
Hi Aussie Therse,
can i copy your reply on my blog please. I have a pro-life blog and what you say is 100% correct. I have some readers who dont see how exactly abortion affects them they have no kids so its not their problem. This might wake them up
Smiley,
That is fine. I will pop over to see your blog. I love reading other pro lifers.
God bless
Therese
Better late than never - ALL CATHOLICS MUST regard ALL LIFE AS SACRED, as you have said! There can be NO SELECTIVITY; and yes, Adult Stem Cells are successful, where embryonic fail miserably, as well as the main issue of preserving all life as God Wills.
Someone should tell "president' Obama (who has no birth certificate to qualify his position!) about the Saints - especially, St. Gianna Molla.
I will pray for your precious children, and for a cure for them by means pleasing to Heaven. God Bless your conviction, courage, and faithfulness to The Catholic Faith of Jesus Christ.
Grow up already about President Obama's birth certificate.

I'm thankful that compared to Bush, Obama believes in evolution.
At least scientific progress will not be stifled the way it was for 8 years under Bush
If by scientific progress you mean abortion and embryonic stemm cell research maybe your right.
By the way i dont think you know this but real scientific progress comes from the church
1. Gregor Mendel - Father of genetics - was an augustinian preist.
2 - # Chemist and inventor of Pasteurization, Louis Pasteur was Catholic.
# Inventor of Penicillin, Alexander Fleming was Catholic.
I could go on but you seem too stubborn to see the light. So wallow in your own ideas
