Today I went to Big W.
In the main foyer they had cleaned out their displays from Fathers Day and were putting up Christmas trees.
It is still 16 weeks till Christmas. Comercialism of these Christian events is getting out of hand. As soon as the Christmas decorations come down they will have a Valentines display and an Easter one too (well they did last year anyway).
Why is it that the secular society takes our Christian celebrations and perverts them? They make them into money making materialistic events.
I pity the people that are sucked in by these advertisers and spend more than they can afford in the spirit of giving.
All about Therese, Steve, Daniel and Angelique, Sam and Jess, Madeline and Daniel, Brigette and Adriano, Tom, Amelia and Ryan, Christopher and Joseph. Come on in and share a cup of coffee and see what is happening in our lives.

The 'Secularists' are all too happy to take our money and to profit from the 'Christmas spirit' just DONT say the word it may cause offense! *rolls eyes*.
Watch and see them come out of the wood work...Will it be once again, 'happy holidays'? Will Christmas Carols be banned again this year?
What do they celebrate again...love of money or love of God? One wonders.
Peace & blessings to you Therese:)

I say, decorate for all it's worth! I love all that stuff and it has nothing to do with spending a cent...I can't do enough to show the world something wonderful is happening. Hobby Lobby has all its Xmas trees up and for quite some time now, while they play Christian music year round and close on Sundays which is rare (the owner is a Christian).
I loved going to the stores as a child and seeing the displays up in October...even to this day I must control myself not to twirl down the aisle in reckless abandon because Christmas trees are now up and it's wonderful!!!!
I don't know if this happens in Australia, but here in the States (in the past few years in particular) retailers would decorate for "Christmas" like crazy but refuse to allow employees to actually speak the words "Merry Christmas" in case they offended someone who wasn't Christian! They certainly didn't mind cleaning up (financially speaking) from all of the Christians who shopped for Christmas!

Jane,
It is the same here. A friend of mine works in child care and she cannot sing a single Christmas Carol with the children.
Diana,
I really like the christmas decorations and celebrating Christmas too but not this early.
Marie,
I just find the materialism so sickening. It is just so upsetting that so many people go into huge debt at Christmas and then spend the next year paying it off.
iam only giving out holy cards this year. i never did have alot of money to go Christmas shopping. so i stick to religious gift giving because its about Christ and not materialism. holy cards are inexpensive and a nice gift for anyone to have.
I always wish store workers a Merry Christmas! What can they do!?
We buy very little for Christmas. I am sure people would think we were stingy, but too bad. If you want religious things to give, I scour rummages and get vintage Catholic items and statues, *or* (and this is a fabulous idea) buy religious Christmas ornaments as presents!!!The ones at Hobby Lobby are inexpensive and I bought a whole slew last year for 15 dollars total for everyone.
One sad thing, as an aside...I have heard (because we try to do a service project Xmastime) that at Christmas the nursing homes and hospitals are filled with people wanting to do good for others by visiting and bringing gifts, (commendable) but then they never come back again....
I used to own a gift shop so I have a different take on this. We carried a lot of Christmas ornaments, Nativity sets, etc. Customers started asking for Christmas items as early as May! (I kid you not!) I don't know if these people were actually decorating their homes that early or what but it always amazed me.
I refused to put up Christmas decorations until a week before Thanksgiving, which meant we decorated about Nov. 15 or so.

Completely off the point, sorry, but I wanted you to know that I have sent the I Love This Blog! award your way. Beacuse, well, I do. :)
Hi Lisa,
Thanks for pointing that out. I am amazed that people are asking for Christmas decorations that early in the year. I know some people start buying things early in the year because they want to avoid the huge big spend at the end of the year and I can understand that.
MM. Thanks so much for loving my blog. I am honoured by your award to me.
Therese
