Hot Cross Buns.

I love Hot Cross Buns.

I have been buying them all lent but really would like to try making my own.

Last year I tried a couple of different recipes. One was okay, the other was a disaster. I thought I would ask here and see if any of you have a favourite recipe for them.

I love them too, but my family never saw anything special about them so I quit making them. I have several recipes, but I think you should find good ones on line also.
Good luck.

I wish I could help, but I always purchased mine, too. Good day to you! Cathy

Wow - what a coincidence! I was just thinking I'd make some. I am not personally fond of the "real" recipe, so thought I'd try it with just a raisin bread recipe...none of those other dried fruits.

Hi Therese,
I have a Hot Cross Bun recipe that you mix in a breadmaker. HTH

HOT CROSS BUNS

DOUGH
Water 330 ml
Margarine(or butter) 2 tablespoons
Egg 1x60g
Sultanas 3/4 cup
Nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon
Salt 1/2 teaspoon
Brown Sugar 1/4 cup
Plain flour 520g (3 1/4 cups)
Yeast 2 1/2 teaspoons

CROSSES
Plain flour 80g (1 1/2 cups)
Water 80 ml
Sugar 2 teaspoons

GLAZE
Water 2 tablespoons
Sugar 2 tablespoons
Gelatine 1 teaspoon

1. Remove completed dough from bread pan. Line a baking tray with baking paper.

2. Knead dough on a floured surface until elastic and springs back when pressed. Divide dough into 12 pieces. Shape each piece into a ball. Place close together on a baking tray. Cover and allow to rise for 30 minutes.

3. CROSSES: Mix flour and water together until smooth. Pipe crosses over risen dough.

4. Bake buns for 30 minutes in a pre-heated oven at 180C until golden brown.

5. GLAZE: Combine ingredients in a jug. Microwave on Medium for 1-2 minutes. Brush over hot buns.

Makes 12 buns.
